1. The warm-up that was the most helpful was the sign language A. This helped me the most because I realized that you can use the most simple of shapes to make more complex structures such as a hand. 2. Value- is the element of design that defines the lights and darks in an artwork. Composition- is the placement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of work. 3. Pen- Pros: you can make dark, specific lines with the tool Cons: It cannot erase and you can make mistakes easier than if it were pencil or charcoal Charcoal- Pros: if you do not like what you drew you can rub it into the background Cons: it is extremely messy and if you accidentally rub it your work could be erased Pencil- Pros: if you make a mistake while driving you can erase it, there are also many different types of pencils that make it darker or lighter so you see a greater contrast Cons: it can be erased easily and is not permanent I was inspired by the artist, Lui Ferreyra. His work involves so many different colors which caught my eye. I really liked the use of the colors to show the highlights and the dark elements of the piece. Ferreyra's work is mostly portraits of hands and people. I appreciate how the colors blend together to look like the object and how they do not look as if they are just randomly chosen. I also admire how he not only uses a variety of colors, but he also uses a variety of shapes in his pieces. The colors and shapes put together I feel give the picture volume and it seems more that a flat drawing on a piece of paper. Lui Ferreyra has been working since the early 2000's on his unique technique. His work is oil on canvas, but he has added his own technique to differentiate himself from other artists. He is located in Denver, Colorado. Ferreyra's art can be found in galleries, online, and on social media. Lui Ferreyra's art can be found on his website, www.luiferreyra.com or on his Facebook and Instagram accounts where he posts pictures of his work.
